A 44-year-old man identified as Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Esho, has been ordered to be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre by the Ikeja Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos State, over a string of alleged killings spanning more than a decade.

The ruling was delivered on Tuesday by Magistrate Mobolaji Tanimola, who ordered the remand of the defendant for an initial 30-day period pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.

Akinwande faces 11 counts ranging from conspiracy, murder, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, to membership of an unlawful society, possession of a poisonous dagger, grievous bodily harm, threat to life, and possession of arms. The charges were filed by the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the police prosecutor, Nosa Uhumwangho, the offences were committed across multiple dates between December 9, 2010, and April 5, 2025, in locations including Mushin, Idi-Araba, Surulere, and Fadeyi.

The prosecutor told the court that Akinwande, while allegedly in unlawful possession of an AK-47 rifle, “shot and killed one Yusuf Bolakale (30) and one Yusuf Ramadan (23) at No. 11 Mosalashi Street, Mushin, Lagos.”

He allegedly fled to Alagbado, where police operatives eventually apprehended him.

Uhumwangho also claimed that on December 9, 2010, at Tiamiyu Street, Fadeyi, the defendant “shot and killed a 10-year-old girl, Aminat Lateef, while she was running an errand.”

On July 31, 2024, Akinwande is also alleged to have taken part in a violent clash between rival cult groups at Idi-Araba, where “he killed six other persons, identified as Anyila (surname unknown), Ojajo (surname unknown), and four others.”
