Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, making him the club’s third attacking acquisition of the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old joins the 20-time English champions in a deal reported to be worth up to £74 million (€85m, $99m), with £66.3 million guaranteed and the balance tied to performance-related add-ons. Sesko has penned a five-year contract, subject to registration formalities.
A prolific forward, Sesko has netted 16 goals in 41 appearances for Slovenia and will now spearhead United’s revamped frontline alongside recent high-profile signings Matheus Cunha (£62.5m) and Bryan Mbeumo (£65m plus £6m in add-ons).
“The history of Manchester United is obviously very special, but what really excites me is the future,” Sesko said. “When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon.”
Despite interest from Newcastle United who could offer European football this season, Sesko chose Old Trafford, citing the club’s energy and environment as decisive factors.
“From the moment I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created,” he added. “It is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions. I cannot wait to start learning from Ruben (Amorim) and connecting with my team-mates to achieve the success that we all know we are capable of together.”
The move comes as part of United’s push to rebound from a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, with manager Ruben Amorim overseeing a major reshaping of the squad’s attacking options.
