President Bola Tinubu has approved new appointments to the governing councils and management of some federal universities.

Chisom Obih was named to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, replacing a member who passed away.

The President also appointed Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye, a veteran communications scholar, to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State. Akinfeleye, a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, also chairs the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography/Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television. He previously served on the Governing Council of Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, and will now succeed Wahab Owokoniran, recently named Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.

In the same announcement, Tinubu appointed Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State. Other principal officers include Mr. Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Aminu Liman as Librarian.

Prof. Yakasai, a retired Nigerian Army Colonel and Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano, also chairs the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria. He holds an MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and completed postgraduate training in the United Kingdom, earning membership and fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He later obtained a Master’s in Medical Education from the University of Winchester and pursued fellowships with the International College of Surgeons (USA) and the American College of Surgeons.

Yakasai also previously served as Director-General of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board.
