Inter Milan have officially withdrawn their interest in signing Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman, following the collapse of transfer negotiations with Atalanta.
Reports indicate that Inter, who had been in discussions for weeks, were unable to reach an agreement with Atalanta over the player’s valuation. The talks, which had already stalled for more than two weeks, ended without progress, forcing the Nerazzurri to abandon the move.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Inter officials are now preparing to meet with Lookman’s representatives within the next 24 hours to formally communicate the decision and provide clarity on the breakdown of the deal.
Sources close to the club also clarified that Lookman’s proposed move had no connection to ongoing discussions involving Nicola Zalewski’s potential transfer from Roma to Atalanta, dismissing speculation that both negotiations were linked.
Lookman, 26, has become a key figure at Atalanta since joining from RB Leipzig in 2022. His clinical finishing and creativity in attack were instrumental in the club’s strong domestic and European campaigns last season. On the international stage, he also impressed with Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring three crucial goals as the Super Eagles reached the final.
Inter had earmarked Lookman as a versatile attacking reinforcement to strengthen their forward options ahead of the new season. However, Atalanta’s firm stance and unwillingness to lower their valuation made the transfer unworkable.
With the deal now off the table, Inter Milan are expected to shift their focus to alternative attacking targets as the summer transfer window enters its decisive final weeks.
