The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed deep frustration over the Federal Government’s continued inaction regarding long-standing issues affecting university lecturers.
ASUU President, Chris Piwuna, in a statement to Sunday PUNCH, said the union will only consider a tangible counter-offer in response to the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement — the last formal agreement signed between the union and the government.
“Our members are tired of words without action. We need something concrete,” Piwuna stated.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, recently confirmed that a technical committee, led by Permanent Secretary Abel Enitan, is finalizing a revised proposal for ASUU.
“We’ve set up a high-level technical team to clean up our proposal and present a clear document,” Alausa announced during a press briefing on Thursday.
ASUU is pushing for a review of the 2009 agreement to reflect improved conditions of service, welfare, and funding for public universities.
