Over 4,000 students and teachers in Osun State have benefitted from bursaries, educational materials, and institutional grants facilitated by Hon. Bamidele Salam, member representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency.
The initiative, presented at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ede on Tuesday, provided bursaries of ₦100,000 each to 1,300 tertiary students, learning materials such as school bags and books to about 2,000 secondary school students, and grants to student bodies as well as the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who graced the event, commended Salam for the intervention, describing education as the most powerful investment any society can make. He urged students to use the opportunity wisely.
“The presentation of bursaries to 1,300 students will no doubt ease the burden of their education. The distribution of books, school bags, and learning materials to over 3,000 secondary school students will improve their readiness for learning. The grants to student bodies and the Nigeria Union of Teachers will strengthen their ability to serve and inspire,” Adeleke said.
He added that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of education, stressing that community-driven initiatives such as Salam’s would help build a stronger future for Osun State.
The facilitator, while addressing journalists, explained that the gesture was part of his commitment to education from the 2025 budget allocation.
According to him, more than 3,000 beneficiaries were reached through the programme. He added that student bodies across the constituency were involved in monitoring the selection process to ensure transparency.
“We are giving bursaries to students in tertiary institutions, ₦100,000 each as a form of support from the capital allocation I have in the 2025 budget. For the bursaries, we are giving it to 1,300 students, and for school bags and other materials, about 2,000. In all, we should be looking at between 3,000 and 4,000 beneficiaries,” Salam said.
Salam explained that the gesture was part of his commitment to education from the 2025 budget allocation, while noting that education remained a critical sector for human capital development, and the initiative was designed to reduce the burden on students and parents.
“The Federal Government has brought on good initiative like the NELFUND, and I also believe very strongly that part of the allocation I have for the 2025 budget, I put it into supporting the students communities, through bursaries and educational materials, we are giving them school bags, books and other writing materials.”
Media aide to Rep. Salam and Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, Mr. Oladele Bamiji, said the initiative reflected the lawmaker’s consistent investment in education.
“As you can see, it’s been tremendously wonderful since his assumption of office as a representative. On monday, we were at the commissioning of school buildings facilitated by him. Today, we’re witnessing the bursary Award, with over 1,300 beneficiaries receiving ₦100,000 each, as well as educational materials,” Bamiji said.
Beneficiaries of the bursary awards and school materials expressed gratitude to the Lawmaker while adding that the relief will lessen the pressure they face as students and help them to stay focus on their education.
Representatives of the students took turns to appreciate the intervention describing it as a necessary impetus towards a brighter future.
