Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has distanced himself from claims by his predecessor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, that he is one of his political mentees. The governor instead named President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi as the figures who greatly influenced his political journey.
El-Rufai, during an interview on Channels Television, had said that Governor Sani was among the many people he mentored, describing it as one of his greatest achievements.
“Uba Sani is one of my mentees. I have developed many of them. My biggest pride in life is that I’ve elevated people, encouraged and mentored them to greatness, some even greater than me,” El-Rufai said.
But reacting in a Sunday interview with TVC, Governor Sani dismissed the remark, stressing that he would not be drawn into personal exchanges.
“I don’t think it is necessary for me to respond to that comment because I have no time for such. My focus is on delivering for the people of Kaduna State,” he said.
Instead, the governor highlighted those he regards as his true leaders and mentors.
“I have worked with many people in my life. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom I met in 1994 at the house of Beko Ransom-Kuti, is still my leader. Chief Gani Fawehinmi was also a father to me. During the days of struggle, I lived in his house and drew a lot of inspiration from him,” Sani explained.
Governor Sani further emphasized that his administration remains focused on governance, not distractions.
“If someone is speaking about me, I won’t comment. My focus is Kaduna. I don’t talk about individuals. I stay committed and keep my eyes on the ball,” he said.
It will be recalled that Uba Sani once served as El-Rufai’s political adviser between 2015 and 2019, before securing the Kaduna Central senatorial seat in the 2019 election with El-Rufai’s support.
