Gunmen on Sunday night killed six people in Ikn’gwakap community, Mushere Chiefdom, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, in the latest outbreak of violence.

Witnesses said the attackers, numbering many, invaded the community at midnight, firing indiscriminately. Several houses were reportedly set ablaze during the assault.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Mushere Youth Movement, Kutyil Gashion Nahum, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.

The statement reads, “On the night of Sunday, September 14, 2025, six innocent persons, including women and children, were brutally murdered in their sleep in Ikn’gwakap, the headquarters of Mushere Chiefdom. Several others remain missing, leaving families in fear, trauma, and uncertainty.

“It is both alarming and unacceptable that despite repeated attacks on Mushere communities, not a single perpetrator has been arrested or neutralised. This persistent failure highlights the urgent need for a total overhaul of the security architecture in the area.

“We therefore call on the government at all levels to rise to its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property. The continued silence and inaction only embolden terrorists to perpetrate more violence on defenceless communities.

“While demanding immediate and decisive action, we equally urge all citizens across Mushere and Bokkos to remain vigilant, united, and proactive in safeguarding their communities, even as we continue to press peacefully and firmly for justice and lasting peace.”

Nahum stressed that “the blood of the people must not continue to be shed in vain,” insisting, “The time for decisive action is now.”

In a separate incident the same night, kidnappers invaded Dong community in Jos North LGA around 10 p.m. and abducted two children.

A resident, Mark Josiah, said, “We are just at the house now. Since the incident happened, we have not seen the two children.”

The spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, has yet to issue an official statement. However, a police source confirmed that security personnel had been deployed to the affected communities to assess the situation.
