The leadership of Iree Progressives Association has called on political actors within the community, most especially, leaders of All Progressives Congress and the Accord not to allow politics to destroy their collective heritage and throw the ancient town into crisis.
The Association made the call in a statement obtained by InsightMedia on Wednesday.
The Global Executive of the IPA condemned the violence attacks that were witnessed before, during and after the governorship election.
The Association highlighted a number of interventions it made before the election in order to have peaceful atmosphere in the community.
The statement read, “After a thorough review of pre-election peace engineering organized by IPA including several town hall meetings to which all political parties were invited, and which all except one party attended, witnessed by national institutions and security agencies: NPF, DSS, INEC, NSCDC; we here state as follows: Based on several visual pieces of evidence available to us, we condemn every form of crisis in the strongest terms. Violence is wicked and barbaric and has no place in Iree culture.”
IPA condemned the attack on the personal residence of the Aree of Iree, Oba Muritala Oyelakin by unknown hoodlums, declaring that the monarch has remained a father to all regardless of political affiliation.
“We state categorically that His Royal Majesty has remained an ambassador of peace and a father to all Iree indigenes irrespective of political or religious affiliation. He has no political affiliation with any party. Despite efforts to brew crisis in Iree, our Kabiyesi has consistently preached peace, harmony and unity.”
IPA called on politicians to put the interest of the community ahead of other considerations.
“To leaders of all political parties in IREE, especially APC and ACCORD. We urge you to manage this moment with humility and magnanimity. Power is transient. No champion reigns forever, but brotherhood remains forever.
Always remember that IREE belongs to all of us. Do not allow politics to destroy our kinship.

“We implore all writers and commentators circulating information about Iree to properly verify and balance their fats before publishing. It is injurious spread narratives that can further inflame tension.
“We urgently call on the Nigeria Police, DSS, and NSCDC to deploy more personnel Iree with a view to maintaining law and order while also protecting lives and property.
Iree Progressive Association sues for peace. Our community is known for hospitality and unity. We shall remain so without compromise.
