Tragedy struck in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Thursday after Zannah Jaridama, who had earlier raised alarm over his missing children, discovered their lifeless bodies alongside that of his neighbour inside the boot of his old car.
Confirming the incident, the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Nazir Abdulmajid, said the children were found dead in the locked boot of a car within Jaridama’s compound.
Police operatives were deployed to the scene, photographs were taken, and the bodies were later moved to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for autopsy.
“For now, we cannot really say this was what really transpired. And we have not established that it was linked to any political killing. But the autopsy will give the proof,” Abdulmajid stated.
Before the grim discovery, Jaridama had shared a viral video on Facebook lamenting the disappearance of his children and pleading for divine intervention. He later released another emotional message, offering to surrender himself in exchange for their lives.
“It is me they are after, not my children. Please, for God’s sake, spare their lives. I am ready to give myself up, even to death, so that these innocent children can continue to live,” he wrote.
Jaridama’s earlier viral video had sparked controversy, as he accused some cabals and politicians in Governor Babagana Zulum’s circle of hypocrisy and sabotage.
“They wear big clothes to follow him everywhere, but when it is time to defend him, they disappear. They are hypocrites. When it is a wedding, it is Zulum. When it is school fees, it is Zulum. When it is a house, it is Zulum. What value do you bring? You are destroying the governor while claiming to support him.
“Some of them came into the administration with only one vehicle and have now made fortunes, but they cannot spend N1m on behalf of the governor.
“On their faces, they pretend they are Zulum’s men, but underground, they are fighting him. They are declaring that they are Zulum’s die-hard fans, yet they do not love the people,” he said.
He further alleged that the individuals were “building big houses and going about denigrating the government while you are funding youths to be attacking the personality of the governor, while you are still in the governor’s party, APC.”
