The Vice Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Prof. Odunayo Clement Adebooye, has announced that 2,851 degrees and diplomas will be awarded during the institution’s 15th convocation ceremonies.
Speaking at a pre-convocation press conference on Wednesday at the university’s main campus in Oke-Baale, Osogbo, Adebooye gave a detailed breakdown of the awards. According to him, the honours include 2,505 first degrees, 1 postgraduate diploma, 283 master’s degrees, and 62 doctoral degrees.
Among the first-degree recipients, 49 will graduate with First Class, 988 with Second Class Upper, 1,279 with Second Class Lower, 178 with Third Class, and one with a Pass.
The convocation, scheduled from Wednesday, September 17 to Wednesday, September 24, 2025, will also feature the commissioning of seven major projects, including: thele iconic Senate Building funded by TETFund’s High Impact Intervention, the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology Building, a Twin 500-seat Lecture Theatre Complex, an additional 500-capacity lecture theatre, new entrepreneurship equipment, and two more 500-capacity lecture theatres at the Okuku and Ifetedo campuses.
Prof. Adebooye described the event as historic, noting that it celebrates not only the graduating students but also the university’s transformation into a hub of innovation and academic excellence.
He explained that students admitted in the 2021/2022 academic session for four-year programmes, as well as those admitted in 2020/2021, will formally graduate between 22 and 23 September 2025.
Activities lined up for the convocation ceremony include: Induction ceremonies for graduates of Building Technology, Food Science and Technology, Engineering, and Education, Alumni Day events, a special Jumat Service, a convocation play and a thanksgiving service.
Convocation ceremonies for the Colleges of Humanities, Culture and Education; Management and Social Sciences; and Law will hold on Monday, September 22. The following day, Tuesday, September 23, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny Echono, will deliver the convocation lecture titled “Digital Transformation in Higher Education: Building Skills in Graduates for Global Competitiveness.”
The final day, Wednesday, September 24, will feature the Postgraduate College convocation and the commissioning of the newly completed projects.
Prof. Adebooye expressed appreciation to Governor Ademola Adeleke for his administration’s support, as well as to the university’s Governing Council, TETFund and other partners. He reaffirmed the institution’s ambition to rank among Nigeria’s top 10 universities and Africa’s top 20.
“Our progress would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the Government of Osun State and our stakeholders. Our path is clear, and our strategies are robust,” he concluded.
