The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, has reaffirmed the commission’s full preparedness for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election slated for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
During an inspection visit to INEC’s state office in Awka ahead of the stakeholders’ meeting on Monday, Prof. Amupitan assured citizens and political stakeholders of a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process.
“Our duty is to the people of this nation. INEC is fully prepared to conduct an election that is free, fair, and truly reflects the will of the people,” he said.
The INEC boss urged all stakeholders to work in unity to ensure a seamless process, warning against attempts by “vested interests” to discredit the exercise. He emphasized that the commission remained steadfast and focused on fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
Providing an update on logistics, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Anambra State, Dr. Elizabeth Agwu, confirmed that all non-sensitive materials have been distributed across the 21 local government areas of the state.
She also revealed that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices have been fully configured, tested, and certified ready for use.
“We have made thorough preparations. From staff training to the deployment of materials, every necessary step has been taken to ensure a smooth, credible, and technology-driven election,” Dr. Agwu stated.
According to her, generators have also been deployed to key locations to guarantee uninterrupted power supply throughout the election period.
Both Prof. Amupitan and Dr. Agwu stressed the importance of collaboration among political parties, security agencies, civil society organizations, and the media, describing transparency and partnership as the cornerstones of electoral credibility.
“We are committed to inclusiveness and transparency. Every stakeholder has a role to play in making this election a success,” the INEC Chairman added.
As part of the final readiness review, Prof. Amupitan, accompanied by National Commissioners, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, Malam Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, Mr. Sam Olumekun, Prof. Sami Adam, Dr. Baba Bila, and Prof. Sunday Aja visited INEC offices in Oyi and Awka South Local Government Areas to assess last-minute preparations.
