The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given approval for Lagos State University (LASU) to introduce four new full-time undergraduate programmes under its Faculty of Computing and Information Technology.

The approval was announced in a statement released on Tuesday by LASU’s Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile. She noted that the development further cements LASU’s reputation as a forward-thinking institution committed to technology-driven education.

According to the statement, the NUC’s approval was conveyed in a letter dated November 3 and signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning, Mr. Abubakar Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary. The green light followed a rigorous resource verification exercise where expert panels assessed the university’s readiness in terms of manpower and facilities.

The newly approved programmes, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Information and Communication Technology and Data Science will officially take off in the 2025/2026 academic session. However, the approval currently covers only full-time study modes.

Thomas-Onashile added that by expanding its offerings in high-demand technology fields, LASU is reaffirming its commitment to producing graduates equipped with the skills needed to thrive in Nigeria’s growing digital economy and in global tech ecosystems.
