The hallowed halls of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), an institution dedicated to academic excellence, have become the unwilling backdrop for a brewing political scandal involving Mr Segun Bankole, a prominent figure within the Nigerian Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Ekiti State Chapter. The fundamental question at the heart of this controversy is an ethical one: Why is a civil servant, bound by the constitutional constraints of public service neutrality, allegedly engaging in deep, disruptive political manoeuvring within an autonomous academic domain where he holds no formal affiliation as either a student or an alumnus?

The sheer breadth of Mr Bankole’s alleged transgressions demands immediate introspection regarding the porous boundaries between political patronage and institutional integrity.

Initial inquiries reveal a concerning history of reported disciplinary issues associated with Mr Bankole’s official duties. Multiple sources confirm that the operative was recently redeployed from his sensitive role in the Government House Protocol section to an undisclosed assignment. This move was reportedly necessitated by documented incidents of “mischievous, criminal, and mole-like activities.”

For a public servant to face such serious allegations and activities that compromise trust and protocol and immediately reappear as a central figure in university politics, raises a chilling red flag. It suggests a pattern of disregard for the rules that govern public conduct and a willingness to leverage political influence for personal gain, even after facing internal administrative censure. The public deserves to know the full scope of the misconduct that led to his redeployment and whether this shift was a genuine disciplinary action or a strategic move to reposition an asset.

The concerns surrounding Mr Bankole extend far beyond his official capacity and delve into his competence in leadership. Reports from within the youth body he purportedly leads paint a devastating picture of reckless management and poor governance. Allegations suggest that his tenure was marked by greed and poor leadership skills, leading directly to the loss of four co-executives.

How can an individual, whose leadership style is reportedly so disastrous that it shatters the very fabric of his own organisation, suddenly assert authority over the academic affairs of a Federal University? The public is rightfully asking why Mr Bankole is not focused on repairing his own severely damaged reputation and rectifying the internal failures of his organisation, rather than intruding upon the critical domain of student life and university administration at FUOYE. The students and staff of the University are not subjects for his political experimentation.

Adding a layer of perplexing drama to this narrative are questions regarding Mr Bankole’s personal financial stability. Once known for the conspicuous display of wealth, symbolised by a much-touted Lexus vehicle, sources close to the operative have confirmed a sudden, unexplained shift in his lifestyle. His current reliance on a seemingly downgraded transportation option a Peugeot 505 has fueled speculation about a sudden and dramatic reversal of fortune.

For a figure so deeply embedded in political and youth-related activities, this unexplained financial downgrade points toward potential instability or, worse, the sudden drying up of illicit funding streams. This is especially relevant given the increasing public scrutiny of his supposedly legitimate YSJ farming activities, which some have already labelled a ‘scam’ designed to exploit vulnerable young people under the guise of empowerment.

The community is issuing an unequivocal demand: Mr Bankole must cease all interference in FUOYE activities immediately. His ongoing actions are not constructive; they are a threat to the institution’s stability. If he fails to withdraw, the scrutiny currently focused on his conduct within the University will inevitably expand to expose the truth about his alleged ‘scam’ farming ventures, potentially leading him to the ruin he seems determined to invite.

This situation calls for the government to step in and restore order, ensuring that public institutions like FUOYE are protected from opportunistic individuals whose actions reflect a profound ethical transgression and a complete disregard for the public trust. The integrity of a Federal University, and the future of its students, cannot be held hostage by the political ambitions of one reckless individual
