The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, is set to host a new School of Politics following a partnership with the BAT Ideological Group.

The collaboration will lead to the establishment of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Institute of Politics and Policies, an initiative aimed at strengthening ideological education and grooming a new generation of political leaders in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Director of Media and Publicity of the BAT Ideological Group, Arabinrin Aderonke, said the initiative was born out of a shared commitment to deepen political ideology, leadership training and governance studies in the country.

She explained that the agreement was reached during a high-level strategic meeting between the leadership of the group and the management of LASUSTECH.

The BAT Ideological Group delegation was led by its convener, Bamidele Atoyebi, and included the group’s patron, Alhaji Tejumade Onirin, Oyo State Coordinator, Prof. Fayomi Oluyemi, and the Oyo State Woman Leader, Dr Bisi Alabi.

They were received by the Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, alongside key principal officers of the university, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Abiodun Denloye; the Registrar, David Ogungbe; the Bursar, Oki Olashile; and the Dean of Student Affairs, Owoeye David.

Speaking after the meeting, Atoyebi said the group had formally submitted a detailed proposal for the creation of a School of Politics and Policies, envisioned as a national centre for ideological training, political leadership development and governance research.
According to him, both parties agreed that academic and professional activities of the institute would commence within the next two to three months.

He also disclosed that LASUSTECH had made available a temporary facility to ensure the immediate take-off of the institute, while plans are underway for the construction of a permanent, purpose-built complex that would reflect the institute’s national outlook and long-term vision.

Atoyebi described the proposed institute as a strategic response to what he termed Nigeria’s leadership deficit, noting that it would offer structured academic programmes at diploma, master’s and doctoral levels, alongside professional certifications, fellowships and ideological training for both emerging and established political actors.

He added that the initiative marked a historic milestone, stressing that it would be the first university-based political institution in Nigeria named after a sitting President.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu represents “not just a political leader, but an institution of leadership, ideology and governance whose political philosophy deserves academic study and institutional preservation.”
