The Alayemore of Ido-Osun, Oba Olayinka Oyetunde Ishola Jokotola II, has been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Arts (Culture and Tradition) by Bradley University, Illinois, United States of America.

The honour, which was in recognition of the monarch’s exceptional contributions to the preservation, promotion, and advancement of African culture and traditional heritage.

The conferment ceremony took place at the Obafemi Awolowo University Conference Centre in Ile-Ife.

A statement by Prince Okunoye Oluwaseyi Adesoji, Director of Media and Communication at the Palace of Olojudo, revealed that the evebt attracted traditional rulers, scholars, and well-wishers from across Nigeria to celebrate the monarch’s enduring dedication to cultural preservation and community development.

He said, “the award acknowledges the Alayemore’s unwavering commitment to promoting Yoruba culture, strengthening traditional institutions, and fostering unity and development within Ido-Osun and beyond. Since ascending the throne, Oba Jokotola II has championed initiatives that preserve indigenous values while encouraging education, peace, and socio-economic progress among his people.

Accepting the honour, Oba Jokotola dedicated the it to his late father, his forebears and sons and daughters of Ido-Osun, who he described as pillars of support and unity.

The monarch expressed profound appreciation to Bradley University for the recognition, stating that it will “compel him to re-dedicate, recommit and immerse himself deeper into the service of his people and promotion of Yoruba culture and tradition.

“The recognition further underscores the growing international appreciation for the role of traditional rulers in safeguarding cultural identity, strengthening social cohesion, and promoting grassroots development.
