Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has opened up on the people who shaped his journey to the top, singling out football legends Didier Drogba, Odion Ighalo, and John Obi Mikel as major influences in his career.

The Galatasaray forward shared the insight during a livestream chat with comedian Carter Efe, where he reflected on his growth in football and the support system behind his success.

Osimhen, who is currently in Nigeria recovering from an injury sustained during a UEFA Champions League clash involving Galatasaray and Liverpool, said his achievements are rooted in faith, family, and guidance from experienced professionals.

“I give all the glory to God. But there are also people who helped guide me and shaped my path,” he said.

Speaking on his football inspirations, Osimhen pointed to former Ivory Coast striker Drogba as a lifelong role model, while also praising Ighalo for his consistent influence.

He revealed that he recently visited Ighalo and described the former Super Eagles forward as someone he deeply respects.

“He’s someone I admire a lot. The role he has played in my life and career is huge. He’s a legend and one of the people who truly made an impact on me,” Osimhen said.

The 27-year-old also recounted a memorable moment with former Super Eagles captain Mikel during his early days in the national team. According to him, the ex-Chelsea midfielder showed uncommon kindness.

“I went to meet him and he asked me to follow him to his room. He even gave me some money in pounds. I can’t mention the amount, but it meant a lot,” he recalled.

Osimhen further paid tribute to Nigerian greats he watched while growing up, including Nwankwo Kanu and Jay-Jay Okocha, noting that their exploits inspired his dream of playing for the Super Eagles.

He added that before he broke into the national team, Ighalo was already a dominant figure leading Nigeria’s attack, a role that further motivated him to succeed.

Now regarded as one of Africa’s finest strikers, Osimhen’s story reflects a blend of talent, mentorship, and gratitude for those who helped him along the way.
