A member of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, Tolu Bankole, has said opposition parties are not prepared for the 2027 general elections, maintaining that the ruling party has already outperformed its rivals through governance and political strategy.
Bankole, who serves as the APC National Leader for Persons with Disabilities, made the remark in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja. He commended the administration of President Bola Tinubu, saying the party was gaining strength ahead of the next electoral cycle.
According to him, opposition parties are currently dealing with internal crises and lack the unity and policy direction required to effectively challenge the ruling party in the upcoming elections.
“The facts are undeniable and the evidence is overwhelming: the opposition is not just struggling, it is in complete disarray and facing an existential crisis. They are woefully unprepared, deeply divided and intellectually bankrupt as we approach the 2027 general elections,” he said.
Bankole added that the APC, under Tinubu’s leadership, had surpassed its rivals both politically and in governance.
He also credited the administration with stabilising the economy, attracting investment, improving infrastructure and addressing security concerns across the country.
“The APC, under the visionary and decisive leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has not only outmanoeuvred the opposition but has overwhelmed them on every front.
“President Tinubu’s political experience, strategic approach and results-driven governance have weakened the opposition. Attempts to distract or undermine the administration have failed because the Renewed Hope agenda is visible and producing results,” he stated.
The former lawmaker dismissed criticisms from opposition parties, insisting that the administration’s achievements speak for themselves.
He said, “The opposition’s response has largely been noise, division and accusations. Their leaders appear more focused on internal conflicts than on presenting a credible policy alternative to Nigerians.
“This is not propaganda; it is performance. Indicators such as road construction, new rail projects, improved foreign reserves, reduced food importation, increased school enrolment and expanded healthcare access show that the government is making progress.”
Expressing confidence about the next election, Bankole said the APC was already building momentum toward another victory.
“The APC is not just heading toward victory in 2027; we are advancing with strong momentum. Our focus remains on moving the country forward,” he added.
Bankole’s statement comes shortly after reports of rising attacks on opposition figures, which have heightened political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, New Nigeria People’s Party and Labour Party, have condemned the incidents, alleging that they are part of efforts to intimidate opposition leaders and weaken rival parties.
However, the APC dismissed the claims as unfounded, arguing that internal conflicts within opposition parties were responsible for many of the reported incidents.
The developments have raised concerns that political tensions in the country could intensify as early alignments for the 2027 elections continue. Opposition leaders, however, insist that the alleged intimidation will not stop them from mobilising supporters or preparing for the polls.
