President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally endorsed the deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 election.
The endorsement came on Wednesday during a meeting between the President and members of the Lagos APC Governance Advisory Council (GAC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The GAC delegation was led by its chairman, Tajudeen Olusi, alongside Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Confirming the development, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga disclosed that Tinubu used the meeting to give his backing to Hamzat as the party’s consensus choice for the Lagos governorship race.
“President Tinubu formally endorses the Lagos APC consensus governorship candidate, Obafemi Hamzat, at a meeting with members of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council,” Onanuga said in a post on his official X handle, accompanied by photos from the meeting.
Hamzat, who currently serves as deputy governor of Lagos State, is widely regarded as a key figure in the state’s governance structure and a long-time member of the APC.
The endorsement signals early political alignment within the Lagos APC as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 governorship election.
