The Accord Party has dismissed reports suggesting it endorsed President Bola Tinubu, reaffirming its commitment to backing Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, described the claims as false, stressing that Adeleke remains the party’s candidate. He noted that any official endorsement would be formally communicated through the appropriate channels.
Mgbudem added that the party had concluded its National Executive Committee meeting and was finalising arrangements for its primaries. He revealed that several aspirants had begun purchasing nomination forms following the release of the party’s timetable and fees for various positions.
The clarification comes amid controversy surrounding a billboard in Iwo, Osun State, which displayed images of both Tinubu and Adeleke. The All Progressives Congress had accused the governor of exploiting the President’s image, an allegation his camp has denied.
Expressing confidence in Adeleke’s performance, Mgbudem said the governor had delivered effectively in the state and enjoys strong public support ahead of the next election. He maintained that the party was not concerned about opposition forces, insisting that Adeleke is well-positioned for victory.
The chairman also rejected claims of internal divisions within the party, stating that there is no leadership crisis or faction. He further dismissed reports of any court ruling recognising a rival leadership, insisting that no such directive exists for the Independent National Electoral Commission to act upon.
