Bayern Munich produced a dramatic late surge to defeat Real Madrid 4–3 on the night, sealing a 6–4 aggregate victory in a pulsating UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

The encounter lived up to its billing as a European classic, with both sides trading blows in a high-tempo contest that saw seven goals and two red cards.

Madrid struck first through Arda Güler, who capitalised on an early error by Manuel Neuer to score within the opening minute. The visitors doubled their advantage midway through the first half, but Bayern quickly responded as Aleksandar Pavlović pulled one back.

Harry Kane then levelled matters with his 50th goal of the season, restoring Bayern’s aggregate lead before Kylian Mbappé struck to keep Madrid firmly in contention.

The first half ended in a flurry of goals, with the tie delicately poised heading into the break.

The second half remained tense, with both teams creating chances but unable to find a breakthrough. The turning point came in the 86th minute when Eduardo Camavinga was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, leaving Madrid a man down at a crucial stage.

Bayern capitalised on the advantage almost immediately, as Luis Díaz fired home in the 89th minute to give the hosts the lead. Substitute Michael Olise added a late goal in stoppage time to seal a memorable victory.

Madrid’s frustrations deepened when Güler was also sent off in the closing moments, capping a chaotic end to the contest.

The result sees Bayern advance to the semi-finals, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain in what promises to be another high-profile showdown.

For Bayern and manager Vincent Kompany, the victory keeps their hopes of a treble alive, while Madrid are left to reflect on a dramatic exit despite a spirited performance.
