Former Liverpool FC defender Jamie Carragher has launched a blistering criticism of Chelsea FC’s ownership, insisting the club now needs new owners rather than another manager.

Carragher’s remarks followed the dismissal of Liam Rosenior, who became the fifth permanent manager to lose his job at Stamford Bridge in just four years. The pundit argued that the club’s instability reflects deeper structural issues under owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, operating through BlueCo.

Despite spending more than £1.5bn since taking over in 2022, Carragher said Chelsea have regressed on the pitch, turning what was once a dominant, trophy-winning side into what he described as an “expensive experiment.”

He blamed the club’s struggles on poor management decisions at boardroom level, claiming the leadership has dismantled a culture of success while frequently changing managers and overhauling the squad. According to him, the current structure places too much control in the hands of executives, leaving coaches with limited authority.

Writing in his column, Carragher said the repeated sackings show that the problem goes far beyond the dugout, stressing that the ownership model itself is flawed.

He also criticised Chelsea’s recruitment strategy, suggesting the club’s rigid adherence to its long-term “model” has discouraged experienced managers and left younger coaches exposed to intense pressure. He added that controversial contract policies have further complicated team stability and weakened managerial control.

Carragher contrasted the current regime with the era of former owner Roman Abramovich, noting that while the new owners promised a different approach, the outcome has been a decline in performance, reputation, and overall success.

Looking ahead, Chelsea face another crucial decision as they search for a new manager capable of handling a large and unsettled squad. With growing frustration among supporters and pressure to balance finances, the club’s next move could prove decisive in shaping its immediate future.
