The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited) has dismissed reports alleging that it is selling scrap materials, refinery equipment, or components from its facilities to private individuals or companies, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Friday by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr Andy Odeh, the company said it has not initiated or approved any sale of refinery-related assets in any form.

According to the statement, NNPC Ltd. has neither issued requests for bids, tenders, nor expressions of interest for the disposal of scrap materials or equipment from any of its refineries or storage facilities.

The company also raised concern over the activities of individuals allegedly posing as its representatives or agents, claiming to facilitate the sale of refinery scrap and other equipment.

“These individuals are not authorised by NNPC Limited and are attempting to mislead members of the public,” the statement noted.

NNPC therefore urged members of the public, businesses, and industry stakeholders to disregard such claims and remain cautious when approached with similar offers.

It further clarified that the company is not carrying out any sale of refinery scrap or equipment, and has not authorised any third party to do so on its behalf.

The oil giant explained that any legitimate disposal of assets would only be conducted through formal, transparent procedures and announced via its official communication channels in line with regulatory standards.

The company also encouraged the public to report any suspicious individuals or organisations making such claims to relevant law enforcement agencies.

Reaffirming its stance, NNPC said it remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the proper management of Nigeria’s energy assets.
