Suspected kidnappers have killed a female officer of the Man O’War Corps, Dasola Sanusi, during an ambush on commuters along the Ibadan–Ago-Iwoye Expressway linking Oyo State and Ogun State.

The attack, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, reportedly targeted a group of officers returning from an outing in Ibadan. According to a source familiar with the incident, the assailants opened fire indiscriminately on vehicles shortly after the convoy passed the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria area.

Despite coming under heavy gunfire, the officers managed to escape the scene, although several sustained gunshot wounds. The injured victims were later rushed to a hospital in Ago-Iwoye for treatment.

The source disclosed that Sanusi was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, while another officer identified as Emmanuel is currently receiving medical care for gunshot injuries. Two other female officers were also hospitalised after suffering trauma from the attack.

The remains of the deceased have since been buried in Ago-Iwoye following notification of her family.

Confirming the incident, the National Public Relations Officer of the Man O’War Corps, Ibrahim Bello, said the organisation had commenced an investigation, noting that the victim died from injuries sustained during the attack.

Similarly, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the gunmen were suspected kidnappers who attempted to abduct passengers along the route.

He explained that police operatives swiftly responded to the distress call, foiling the kidnapping attempt and rescuing the injured victims, who were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. However, one of the victims later died from her injuries.

Ayanlade added that some of the affected passengers were transported to Awa-Ijebu in Ogun State for medical attention, noting that full details of casualties in that jurisdiction were still being compiled.
