Chelsea’s difficult season took another turn for the worse after a heavy 3-0 defeat to Brighton on the south coast, extending their winless run to five league matches without scoring.
The loss marks the first time since 1912 that the Blues have gone five consecutive league games without finding the net. Pressure is now mounting on head coach Liam Rosenior, who faced chants from travelling fans calling for his dismissal.
Brighton, however, delivered a confident and clinical performance. Goals from Ferdi Kadioglu, Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck sealed a deserved victory, pushing the Seagulls above Chelsea FC into sixth place as they continue their push for European qualification with four matches left in the season.
For Chelsea, it was another frustrating outing. Despite heavy spending in recent transfer windows, the team struggled to make an impact and were outplayed for large parts of the match. The club has now suffered three consecutive defeats at Brighton’s home ground, raising further concerns among supporters and club officials.
Midfielder Moises Caicedo, one of the club’s most expensive signings, endured a difficult game and was partly responsible for Brighton’s second goal. He, alongside Marc Cucurella and Robert Sanchez, struggled to influence the match, much to the disappointment of fans.
Chelsea will now shift focus to the FA Cup, where they are set to face Leeds United in a semi-final clash at Wembley this weekend, hoping to salvage something from an otherwise disappointing campaign.
