The Federal Government has announced Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Easter celebration.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released on Wednesday.

According to the minister, the holidays will allow Christians across Nigeria and in the diaspora to observe Good Friday and Easter Monday, which are key events in the Christian calendar.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Christians on the occasion and encouraged Nigerians to reflect on the values associated with the season, including love, sacrifice, forgiveness, and unity with principles rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ.

He also called for peaceful coexistence among citizens, stressing that Easter serves as a reminder of the importance of tolerance and togetherness in building a stronger nation.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to national development, the minister noted that ongoing policies are aimed at fostering economic growth, unity, and shared prosperity.

He concluded by wishing Christians across the country a peaceful and joyful Easter celebration.
