The lawmaker representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Olubiyi Fadeyi, has donated ₦20 million to support victims of the recent rainstorm that wreaked havoc in Osogbo.
Fadeyi, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Environment, made the announcement in a statement released on Thursday through his media aide, Desmond Adekanola.
The donation follows a devastating storm last weekend that destroyed several homes and public infrastructure across the state capital. Areas such as Awosuru, Testing Ground, Igbona, and Ogooluwa were among the worst affected, with damage also reported to markets, electricity and telecommunication facilities, worship centres, and public institutions.
According to the senator, the financial support is targeted at individuals and institutions whose properties including homes, shops, food outlets, workshops, schools, hospitals, and even police stations were impacted by the disaster.
He expressed sympathy with residents of the senatorial district, particularly those in Osogbo and surrounding communities, noting that the scale of destruction had left many families displaced and in distress.
Describing the situation as deeply troubling, Fadeyi called for urgent intervention and assured affected residents of continued support.
He also disclosed that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) would complement ongoing relief efforts to cushion the impact of the disaster and improve response to similar incidents in the future.
“This gesture is a demonstration of empathy and solidarity. We understand the hardship the victims are going through and stand with them in this difficult time,” he said.
The senator further advised residents to adopt preventive measures such as proper building maintenance, improved drainage systems, and tree planting to reduce the risk of future damage.
Reaffirming his commitment to the welfare of his constituents, Fadeyi also commended Bola Tinubu for initiating a Special Disaster Intervention Fund, describing it as a proactive step toward strengthening disaster response and preparedness across the country.
