The Kwara State Fire Service and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration on fire safety and emergency preparedness across petroleum facilities in the state.
The development followed a courtesy visit by the Director of the Fire Service, Alabi Muhammed, to the IPMAN secretariat, where he was received by the association’s Chairman, Kabiru Zubair, and other executives.
During the visit, Muhammed congratulated the newly inaugurated leadership of IPMAN and commended the association for its role in promoting safety standards within the petroleum sector.
He stressed the importance of strict adherence to fire safety regulations and called for increased sensitisation among marketers, particularly in areas such as fire prevention, safe fuel handling, and emergency response.
“I urge the new leadership to sensitise your members on strict compliance with fire safety regulations and prioritise regular training of staff on fire prevention and emergency response,” he said.
The fire chief expressed optimism that the existing partnership between both organisations would continue to grow, noting that maintaining high safety standards is critical to preventing fire outbreaks in fuel storage and distribution facilities.
In his response, Zubair appreciated the visit and reaffirmed IPMAN’s commitment to safety compliance and collaboration with the Fire Service.
“We will continue to comply with fire safety regulations, ensure that all staff are adequately trained, and sustain collaboration with the Fire Service,” he said.
He added that the partnership would remain strong in the collective interest of public safety and the protection of critical infrastructure.
The Fire Service also reiterated its commitment to strengthening inter-agency cooperation and sustaining public awareness campaigns aimed at reducing fire incidents across the state.
