The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially adopted Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The decision was reached on Monday during a strategic caucus meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta and presided over by the state chairman, Yemi Sanusi.

The meeting drew prominent party leaders, including Governor Dapo Abiodun and former governors Olusegun Osoba, Ibikunle Amosun, and Gbenga Daniel. Also in attendance were key stakeholders such as Iyabo Obasanjo and federal lawmaker Gboyega Isiaka, among others.

Announcing the decision, Governor Abiodun described Adeola as the party’s consensus choice and urged other aspirants to support him in the interest of unity and progress. His declaration sparked excitement among party faithful, who celebrated the announcement with chants in support of the senator.

In his acceptance speech, Adeola expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for the trust placed in him, promising not to disappoint. He emphasized the importance of unity within the party and the state, pledging to build on existing progress and ensure stability.

According to him, Ogun State remains vital to Nigeria’s growth, and he is committed to sustaining its economic development and strengthening cohesion among stakeholders. He assured party leaders that he would uphold the achievements recorded in recent years while steering the state toward greater heights.

The APC state chairman, Sanusi, explained that the meeting was convened to promote unity within the party ahead of the primaries and the 2027 general elections. He stressed the need for a peaceful and inclusive process that would keep all stakeholders aligned.

Meanwhile, Iyabo Obasanjo announced the suspension of her governorship ambition following the emergence of Adeola as the consensus candidate. In a statement, she congratulated him and expressed appreciation to party leaders and supporters for their backing throughout her consultations.

She noted that her decision was taken in the interest of party cohesion, urging her supporters to remain committed as the party moves forward united.

The development reflects ongoing efforts within the APC to adopt consensus candidates in key states ahead of the next general elections.
