Detectives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old suspect, Chidi Ebere, over the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Igbesa area of the state.
The victim, Sunday Ogbu, 36, was reportedly killed on Wednesday at about 7:00 a.m. after the suspect allegedly posed as a passenger.
According to the police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspect boarded the motorcycle before attempting to hijack it, leading to a violent confrontation.
“The suspect reportedly boarded a motorcycle operated by the victim… and attacked him in an attempt to seize the bike, resulting in a violent struggle,” Babaseyi said.
A witness raised the alarm during the incident, prompting a swift response from police operatives, who apprehended the suspect at the scene.
The victim was rushed to a hospital for treatment but was later confirmed dead by a doctor.
Police recovered the motorcycle and the knife allegedly used in the attack, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the killing and assured that justice would be served.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.
