The Abia State Police Command has commenced a manhunt for a vigilante member accused of killing his girlfriend and attacking two others in Amakama, Ubakala, in Umuahia South Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, said the incident occurred in Umuanga Amakama Community and involved a suspect identified as Chinedu Anamelechi.

She stated that the suspect allegedly shot his girlfriend, Ezinne Ariwodo, to death, stabbed her sister, and also shot another young man in the community.

Chinaka explained that upon receiving the report, police operatives promptly arrived at the scene, where they discovered the victim’s body in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds.

According to her, the injured victims were immediately rescued and taken to a hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

She added that medical personnel confirmed the woman dead, and her remains have been deposited in a morgue for autopsy, while items recovered from the scene are being analysed.

The police spokesperson noted that calm has returned to the area and advised residents against taking the law into their own hands.

She assured that investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to arrest the fleeing suspect.
