Southampton booked their place in the FA Cup semi-finals after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Arsenal at St Mary’s Stadium.

The hosts struck first in the 34th minute through Ross Stewart, who finished clinically after a well-delivered cross from James Bree to give Southampton the lead heading into the break.

Arsenal responded strongly in the second half and eventually found an equaliser in the 67th minute. Viktor Gyökeres calmly slotted home after a well-worked move involving Kai Havertz, bringing the visitors level and setting up a tense finale.

Both sides pushed for a winner, with Arsenal creating several chances, but Southampton remained dangerous on the counter. Their persistence paid off late in the game when substitute Shea Charles struck in the 84th minute, finishing low into the corner to seal a memorable win.

Earlier in the match, Arsenal had chances through Martin Ødegaard and Gabriel Martinelli, while Southampton also came close to extending their lead, hitting the woodwork during a lively second half.

Despite late pressure from Arsenal, Southampton held firm to secure their spot at Wembley and continue their impressive run in the competition.

The defeat ends Arsenal’s FA Cup campaign at the quarter-final stage, forcing them to shift focus to their upcoming UEFA Champions League clash against Sporting CP.
