A teenager identified simply as Quadri has been allegedly beaten to death by suspected cultists in the Itunmeko area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
According to community sources, the incident occurred on Saturday following a clash among youths believed to be affiliated with cult groups.
Quadri, said to be the son of the Alashe of Itunmoja in Ikorodu, was reportedly called out from his residence to intervene in the dispute. However, the situation quickly spiralled out of control.
A resident, who spoke anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the incident, said the teenager became a victim of the violence while attempting to mediate.
“There was a disagreement involving some boys in the area that night. When it escalated, one of Quadri’s friends contacted him. He came to settle the matter, but the attackers turned on him and beat him severely until he became unresponsive,” the source said.
A police source disclosed that the victim was left at the scene before concerned residents rushed him to a hospital. Despite receiving medical attention, he later died from the injuries sustained.
An anti-cultism platform, Naija Confra, also confirmed the incident in a post on Monday, stating that the attack occurred around midnight in an area reportedly dominated by members of the Eiye confraternity. The platform noted that Quadri was not a cult member.
It added that another victim, identified as Adio, also known as Ogbara, was assaulted during the attack but survived.
While the police are yet to issue an official statement, Naija Confra claimed that some suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing.
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said she was not aware of the incident but promised to provide updates. As of the time of filing this report, no further response had been received.
In a related development, a man identified as Adedipe Adeyinkan, popularly known as Agali, was reportedly shot dead by unknown assailants on the National Stadium Bridge inward Iponri area of Lagos. He was rushed to a hospital in Yaba, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
