Two persons sustained gunshot injuries on Tuesday evening when security operatives foiled a suspected kidnap attempt in the old Kara area of Bodija, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday, noting that it occurred on April 21 at about 7:50 p.m.

According to him, police operatives, in collaboration with local hunters, swiftly responded to a distress call reporting that four armed men had attacked a Point of Sale shop in the area and opened fire.

He said the prompt intervention of the security team disrupted the operation and prevented what was believed to be a planned abduction.

During the exchange of gunfire, two individuals were hit by stray bullets but were rescued and taken to a medical facility, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Ayanlade added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, with security personnel intensifying bush-combing operations across the area.

He further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of additional personnel to vulnerable locations to strengthen security and deter further criminal activities.

The police command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that investigations are ongoing to bring those responsible to justice.

Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
