Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has expressed confidence that teammate Mohamed Salah will receive a memorable send-off at Anfield, even if injury cuts short his final appearances for the club.

Salah, who is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season after a remarkable nine-year spell, suffered a suspected hamstring injury during Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace. The 33-year-old was forced off the pitch, and with only a few matches left in the campaign, there are growing concerns he may not play again this season.

Liverpool are currently awaiting scan results to determine the severity of the injury. However, Van Dijk acknowledged the emotional weight of the situation, given the limited number of home games remaining.

“If you get injured at this stage of the season, especially in his situation, there are only a couple of home games left. A lot of emotions come into play,” Van Dijk said.

Despite the uncertainty, the Dutch defender insisted that Salah’s legacy at the club guarantees him a proper farewell.

“He will get the send-off he deserves regardless. That’s not something we should worry too much about right now. Knowing Mo, he’s a quick healer, so let’s see how it goes,” he added.

Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has cemented his place among the club’s all-time greats, scoring 257 goals in 440 appearances. He trails only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt on the club’s all-time scoring chart.

The Egyptian forward has played a key role in Liverpool’s resurgence on both domestic and European fronts, helping the club secure the UEFA Champions League title and two Premier League trophies, among other honours.

Individually, Salah has also enjoyed immense success, winning the Players’ Player of the Year award a record three times and finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer on four occasions.

As the season draws to a close, fans now await both the outcome of his injury and what promises to be an emotional farewell to one of Liverpool’s modern legends.
