The All Progressives Congress has officially declared Kingsley Chinda as its governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The announcement was made on Thursday in Port Harcourt by the chairman of the party’s governorship primary election committee and returning officer, Bitrus Kwamoti.
Kwamoti disclosed the result at the APC Secretariat after collation officers submitted results from the 23 local government areas of the state.
According to him, Chinda, who emerged as the sole aspirant in the primary election, secured a total of 268,497 votes.
“I, Kwamoti Bitrus, chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, having been certified as the returning officer for the Rivers State Governorship Primary Election held on this 21st day of May, 2026, hereby announce the result,” he said.
He added that Chinda satisfied all constitutional requirements and guidelines of the party and was therefore declared winner of the primary election and the APC governorship candidate for Rivers State.
The APC primary election in Rivers attracted significant political attention amid the lingering political crisis in the state and the growing influence of allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, within the party structure.
There had also been speculations surrounding the political future of Governor Siminalayi Fubara following reports that he withdrew from the APC governorship primary before the exercise.
