Former Chelsea FC coach Enzo Maresca has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Manchester City to become the club’s next manager, fueling speculation over a possible managerial transition at the Etihad Stadium.

Reports indicate that Maresca has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Pep Guardiola, with talks said to have advanced significantly. An initial three-year contract is reportedly being prepared for the Italian, although neither Manchester City nor Maresca has made any official statement on the development.

Maresca, who has earned praise for his tactical style and rapid rise in management, is understood to be highly respected within City’s football hierarchy. His possible appointment is seen as a move that would maintain the club’s established possession-based philosophy rather than introduce a dramatic tactical overhaul.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano added to the speculation on Tuesday, claiming that a full verbal agreement had been reached between both parties. According to him, Maresca had long been viewed as the ideal candidate to take over from Guardiola, with only formalities left before the deal is finalised.

Despite the widespread reports, there has been no official confirmation from the Premier League champions, and the situation remains subject to a formal announcement by the club.

If the move is eventually confirmed, Maresca’s appointment would mark one of the most closely followed managerial changes in English football, as Manchester City prepare for what could be the post-Guardiola era after a decade of extraordinary success under the Spaniard.

The development comes amid growing reports that Guardiola may step down at the end of the season. However, the City boss recently dismissed the speculation, insisting he remains committed to the club despite continued rumours linking him with an exit.
