No fewer than four persons have been confirmed dead following a road accident that occurred on Thursday evening at Omi Asoro Junction along the Ilesa-Akure Expressway in Osun State.

The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Osun Sector, Agnes Ogungbemi, confirmed the incident in a chat with journalists on Friday.

She disclosed that 10 other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crash.

Although details surrounding the cause of the accident were still sketchy as of press time, sources at the scene said the crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus heading towards Akure and a mini commercial bus operating within Ilesa metropolis.

A trader near the scene, identified simply as Tobi, said the accident occurred around 9 p.m. when the Toyota bus, reportedly conveying phone accessories and electronic appliances, collided with the mini-bus at Omi Asoro Junction.

Providing official details, Ogungbemi said three victims — two adult males and a female child — died instantly at the scene, while another passenger later died on Friday.

“Four people died while 10 others sustained injuries. Three of the victims, two male adults and a female child, died instantly. Another passenger died this morning,” she said.

She added that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the Wesley Guild Hospital morgue in Ilesa.

According to her, the injured victims comprised seven adults and three children.

“The accident involved a Toyota Hiace commercial vehicle and a Suzuki commercial mini-bus. The driver of the mini-bus had no driver’s licence,” Ogungbemi stated.

The latest incident came barely 24 hours after five persons were burnt to death in a lone accident along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway in Ogun State.
