Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, has officially announced his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during a political rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, where supporters and party loyalists gathered amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing the crowd, the governor formally announced his ambition to seek the nation’s highest office, stating that he would be joining the race for the presidency in 2027.
The declaration comes shortly after Makinde led the Peoples Democratic Party faction aligned with Taminu Turaki in Oyo State into a strategic alliance with the APM. The move was sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding signed as part of preparations for the next general elections.
The agreement was jointly signed by Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, representing both parties.
Under the arrangement, members of the PDP faction seeking elective positions—including governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly seats—are expected to contest under the APM banner in the 2027 elections instead of the PDP.
