The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement in Lagos State, Laja Adeoye, has said residents of the state are yearning for fresh leadership and new ideas ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Adeoye made the declaration on Thursday during the formal unveiling of his governorship ambition at Ward F5, Ejigbo, in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area of the state.
The former Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant, who was aligned with the Seyi Makinde-backed PDP faction before defecting to APM, said Lagos residents had become weary of what he described as repeated excuses by the ruling All Progressives Congress.
“The truth is that Lagos residents are tired. They have seen the ideas and style of governance since 1999 and are yearning for something new,” he said.
According to him, the people desire “fresh ideas, fresh faces, fresh leadership and a fresh governor,” adding that he was stepping forward to provide responsible leadership for the state.
Adeoye promised to run a people-oriented and accountable administration if elected in 2027, assuring residents that he would remain accessible and committed to their welfare.
“I will serve with sincerity, compassion and accountability. I will not be a detached or inaccessible governor; I will be a governor for the people at all times,” he said.
The governorship hopeful also expressed satisfaction with the turnout of leaders and supporters of both PDP and APM at the declaration event, describing it as evidence of growing grassroots support for his ambition.
He said he was not a stranger in Lagos politics, stressing that his roots cut across different parts of the state through his Ijebu and Awori heritage.
“This is my home. I belong here. Through my Ijebu lineage, I have roots in Ikorodu and Epe, while through my Awori heritage, Isolo is where I belong,” he said.
Adeoye described himself as a son of the soil and said residents were excited that one of their own had emerged as the consensus governorship candidate of the APM.
He added that the PDP-APM alliance became necessary following internal crises within the PDP and what he described as attempts to weaken opposition politics across the country.
According to him, aspirants under the Makinde-backed PDP faction would contest the 2027 elections on the APM platform.
“Both PDP and APM have become siblings. We have become a formidable platform to oppose one-party dominance and provide a credible alternative to the APC,” he said.
The governorship candidate also unveiled his “Atunto Eko 1.0” manifesto, which he said was designed to reposition Lagos for inclusive growth and people-focused governance.
“We want to fight suffering and hunger in Lagos. Our cassava logo symbolises our determination to banish poverty,” he stated.
Speaking at the event, the Lagos State APM Chairman, Bunmi Adeyemo, said the party remained united and free from factional disputes.
“Our party does not have factions. We are one. This governorship ambition is already a done deal,” she said.
Also speaking, the State Secretary of APM, Kayode Kolapo, described Adeoye as the pride of the PDP-APM alliance and assured him of the support of party leaders and structures.
The Lagos State PDP Chairman and PDP-APM Coalition Chairman, Amos Fawole, said the alliance remained open to collaborations capable of producing Adeoye as governor in 2027.
“We are confident this alliance will yield positive results in 2027,” Fawole said.
Other speakers at the event, including PDP chieftain Oladipo Dosunmu, PDP Vice Chairman in Oshodi-Isolo Sade Solomon, and Campaign Coordinator of the Laja Adeoye Campaign Organisation, Ademola Alebiosu, expressed confidence in the PDP-APM alliance and urged members to intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
