The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has announced the death of a 73-year-old Nigerian pilgrim from Adamawa State during the ongoing 2026 Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia.
The deceased, Aishatu Muhammadu, was from Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. According to the commission, she died on May 10 after suffering a cardiac arrest while travelling from Jeddah to Madinah.
NAHCON spokesperson, Fatima Usara, disclosed the incident in a statement on Sunday, noting that the commission had informed the family of the deceased.
The Chairman of NAHCON, Ismail Abba Yusuf, also extended condolences to the family on behalf of the Federal Government. He reportedly spoke with the deceased’s brother, Umaru Jauro Koko, offering prayers for the repose of her soul and strength for the family to bear the loss.
The commission said arrangements were being made to return her personal belongings, including travel allowance and official documents, through the Adamawa State Pilgrims Welfare Commission.
Aishatu Muhammadu is survived by her children, grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
