The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the August 15, 2026 election in Osun State, Dr Najeem Salaam has promised to tackle the persistent electricity challenges facing the state if elected.
Salam, a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, made the pledge during a political programme, Oro Oselu, aired on Uniq FM in Ilesa.
In a statement released by his media office in Osogbo, the ADC candidate said his campaign is focused on governance, development, and practical policies that can improve the lives of residents, rather than engaging in political attacks or distractions.
He explained that while some politicians are preoccupied with exchanging words to gain public attention, he has been consulting investors and key stakeholders in the power sector to develop lasting solutions to the unstable electricity supply affecting homes, businesses, and industries across Osun.
According to Salaam, reliable electricity is essential for economic growth, industrial development, youth employment, and the survival of small and medium-scale enterprises. He said addressing the state’s energy crisis would be one of his top priorities if given the mandate to govern.
The governorship hopeful added that no meaningful development can thrive in an environment where power supply remains unreliable, stressing that his administration would pursue partnerships and innovative energy strategies to improve electricity generation and distribution across the state.
He also said the people of Osun deserve leadership built on vision, peace, and practical solutions, noting that his ambition is driven by a desire to restore quality governance and sustainable development.
As political campaigns gather momentum ahead of the 2026 governorship election, candidates across parties have continued to unveil their plans for the state. While the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, recently introduced his seven-point agenda tagged PROSPER, incumbent governor Ademola Adeleke has continued implementing his five-point development agenda since assuming office in November 2022.
