The Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council (TICC), Senator Akogun Kamorudeen Olalere Oyewumi, has said the newly opened Imole Media Centre in Osogbo will serve as a strategic platform for coordinating and disseminating the activities of the campaign council ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
Oyewumi made this known on Sunday during the maiden press conference of the council held at the Imole Media Centre, GRA, Osogbo.
Addressing journalists, the TICC Director-General appreciated members of the media for their support and collaboration with the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“Democracy thrives when the media remains vibrant, courageous, fair and responsible. We acknowledge your critical role in deepening democratic values and sustaining constructive engagement between government and the governed,” he said.
He added that the media centre would operate under the supervision of the Media and Publicity Committee headed by Representative Bamidele Salam.
According to Oyewumi, the media strategy of the campaign council would focus on “facts, truth, respectful communication and engagement,” alongside promotion of the achievements recorded by Governor Adeleke since assuming office.
He stated that the council would not be distracted by what he described as “mundane, trivial or negative politics,” insisting that the administration remained focused on consolidating the gains of governance in the state.
Speaking on the financial situation of the state, Oyewumi disclosed that the Adeleke administration had reduced Osun’s domestic debt profile from N148 billion in December 2022 to N83.3 billion by the first quarter of 2025.
He further stated that the external debt had reduced from $91.7 million in 2022 to $75.1 million, while the internally generated revenue increased from N24.7 billion in 2022 to N58.7 billion in 2025.
“This is an indication of a clean bill of health for the state finances. The government has ensured digitalisation of revenue collection to streamline the tax structure and block leakages,” he said.
Oyewumi also revealed that the administration had cleared 18 months out of the inherited half-salary arrears owed workers by the previous administration and fully settled the 28-month contributory pension arrears owed retirees.
”We all remember the half salary. It’s going gradually. Our government has also cleared in full the 28-month contributory pension arrears owed retirees by the past APC government in Osun State,” he said.
Highlighting infrastructural projects executed by the Adeleke administration, the senator pointed to the construction of flyovers in Osogbo and Ile-Ife, dual carriageways in Ilesa, Ila-Orangun, Ede and Iwo, as well as over 300 kilometres of roads across the state.
According to him, the implementation of the new national minimum wage in Osun did not lead to industrial action, describing it as a first in the history of the state.
“Today, commuting from Old Garage to Lameco has become a pleasurable experience through the dual carriageway delivered by this administration,” he stated.
Oyewumi also cited improvements in the education sector, noting that Osun moved from the 33rd position in NECO rankings in 2022 to seventh position in both 2024 and 2025.
In the agricultural sector, he disclosed that the administration had acquired 31 tractors and distributed over 440,000 cocoa seedlings, 80,000 palm oil seedlings and 60,000 cashew seedlings to farmers across the state.
The TICC Director-General further highlighted the administration’s investment in youth development through recruitment into teaching service, the Imole Youth Corps, Osun Amotekun Corps and other sectors.
He said the government had also repositioned Osun’s digital economy through the introduction of the state ICT policy and domestication of the Nigerian Startup Act.
On sports development, Oyewumi noted that the ongoing remodelling of the Osogbo Township Stadium into an international-standard sporting complex would stimulate local businesses and create employment opportunities for youths and artisans.
He also praised the administration’s healthcare reforms, particularly the revitalisation of 200 primary healthcare centres across the 332 electoral wards in the state.
Speaking further, Oyewumi unveiled the “Imole 2.0” five-point agenda of the campaign council, which includes youth and women empowerment, infrastructure consolidation, agro-industrial expansion, affordable healthcare and education, as well as improved business environment for job creation.
The senator called on security agencies, especially the Nigeria Police Force, to remain neutral, professional and proactive in ensuring peaceful conduct of the governorship election.
“No political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen of Osun State,” he said.
He warned against selective enforcement of the law, saying security agencies must avoid actions capable of creating tension or emboldening political violence in the state.
