Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifelodun, Boripe and Odo-Otin Federal Constituency are currently grumbling as information has emerged that some party leaders and key stakeholders are scheming to present what many grassroots supporters have described as a weak candidate for the House of Representatives as a consensus candidate.

This move is stirring discontent, subtle protest and raising fears of a self-inflicted defeat to Accord Party in the 2027 polls.

Party members who expressed their frustration while speaking with InsightMedia said their fear stemmed from the fact the fact that the constituency produces the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Wale Egbedun.

A member who doesn’t want his name in the print for fear of victimization said, “there is a growing anger on the streets of Ifelodun, Boripe, and Odo-Otin Federal Constituency. Not the quiet grumbling of party faithful, but the loud, restless frustration of grassroots supporters who feel ignored, sidelined, and taken for granted. The leadership of the APC in IBO Federal Constituency is walking a dangerous path, one that could cost the party victory before the first ballot is even cast.”

Speaking further, the party member warned that experimenting with a political newbie may backfire.

“This is not the time for experiments. This is not the time to reward paper qualifications over political reality. Elections are not won on CVs. They are won in the wards, at the polling units, in the hearts of the people. The grassroots do not read credentials; they follow presence, loyalty, and impact.

“Yet, there is a troubling move to hand over the party ticket to an individual who is largely disconnected from the very people whose votes will decide the election. Someone who cannot win an election in his ward, unit, or local government. A candidate who cannot galvanize support, who has not built structures, and who is absent when it matters most.” He lamented.

Another party member who also expressed disappointment with the development said the annointed aspirant has not resigned from his current position.

“Worse still, this same individual has not even resigned from his current appointment. What kind of political gamble is this? Are we deliberately arming the opposition with the very weapon they need to disqualify us? Are we setting ourselves up for avoidable embarrassment? This is not just carelessness, it is political negligence.

“IBO APC has always prided itself as a party of thinkers and strategists; this is not the time to abandon that reputation.”

Speaking further, the APC faithful revealed advised the leaders to consider someone with experience and grassroots acceptability.

“While these uncertainties linger, there is someone within the constituency who has remained consistent with the people, not just in words but in action. A candidate who has built strong grassroots ties across all wards, demonstrated a clear vision for development, and continually invested in the welfare of party members and residents alike.

This is a man who has stood with the people in moments that matter, reaching thousands through personal outreach, supporting party leaders and coordinators across the wards, ensuring food support gets to communities, uplifting widows in every ward, strengthening local mobilization structures with transportation support, and maintaining a constant presence that reassures the people that they are not alone. His commitment to women empowerment, accessibility, and deep understanding of the constituency have made him a true voice of the common people.

“The choice before the leadership is not complicated, but it is critical. Do we reward distance from the struggle, or do we stand with someone who has carried the burden of the party at the grassroots?

“Because the consequences of this decision will not be theoretical. A wrong choice will not only cost votes; it will weaken the party’s structure, discourage loyal supporters, and hand the opposition an advantage they do not deserve.

“This is a moment for reflection. IBO APC leaders must rethink. They must listen. They must act in the true interest of the party. Because the people are watching—and this time, they are paying very close attention.”

The two candidates were not named.
