The media office of Seyi Makinde has dismissed reports claiming the governor has already chosen a preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Ibadan, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Suleimon Olanrewaju, described the reports circulating on social media as untrue.
According to him, Governor Makinde has not endorsed any governorship aspirant, contrary to claims that he had settled for Bimbo Adekanmbi as his preferred successor.
Olanrewaju explained that the governor was still consulting widely and would make his position known at the appropriate time.
“The governor will publicly announce his preferred governorship candidate once consultations are concluded,” he stated.
Speculation about Adekanmbi’s possible emergence intensified after reports surfaced on Wednesday night suggesting Makinde had already settled for him ahead of the 2027 race.
Adekanmbi, who served as commissioner for finance during the administration of late former governor Abiola Ajimobi, has remained active in the political space and public affairs in the state.
His profile further rose in 2025 after Governor Makinde appointed him to chair the committee supervising the upgrade of the Ibadan Airport, one of the major infrastructure projects of the current administration.
Political observers say the speculation surrounding Adekanmbi has already triggered discussions within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and opposition circles, as political alignments ahead of the 2027 election continue to gather momentum in the state.
There are also reports suggesting Makinde could unveil his preferred candidate and possibly align with a new political platform before the weekend, although the governor’s camp has yet to confirm such plans.
