Two undergraduates have been reportedly killed in a suspected cult-related attack in the Ede area of Osun State.

It was gathered on Wednesday that the incident occurred on Tuesday night at an off-campus apartment occupied by the students.

Sources said about six students were attacked when suspected cultists allegedly stormed the residence and assaulted them with dangerous weapons.

A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said the incident was linked to an ongoing rivalry between cult groups in the area.

“The attack occurred in the night. The students were in their room when some cultists who were on a revenge mission forced their way into the apartment and started attacking them with dangerous weapons,” the source said.

“The students sustained varying degrees of injuries, and two later succumbed to their injuries.”

The source further disclosed that other injured victims were receiving treatment at a hospital.

Meanwhile, an anti-cultism advocacy platform, Naija Confra, claimed that suspected members of the Aye confraternity carried out the attack after tracing a Buccaneer member identified simply as Dara to the apartment.

According to the platform, the attackers reportedly met several members of the rival group in the house and launched an assault on them.

“Aye, the hit squad tracked a Buccaneer named Dara to his house. Dara holds the position of first shipmate, and the first shipmate is always with the number one man (Big Eye).

“When they got there, both the first shipmate, the Big Eye, and other officeholders were in the house. They were seriously attacked,” the platform stated.

It added that two persons, including the alleged first shipmate and another member identified as the SJ, lost their lives, while others sustained critical injuries.

Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that a cult clash occurred but said only one death had been officially recorded.

“Suspected cultists had a clash on Tuesday, and one person was killed. Investigation is ongoing,” Ojelabi said.

PUNCH Metro recalls that the Osun State Police Command in March arrested five suspected cultists linked to violent clashes in the Ilesa area of the state.
