AC Milan have reportedly moved former Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim to the front of the queue in their search for a new manager following fresh discussions with the Portuguese tactician.
The Serie A giants are looking to begin a new chapter after a disappointing campaign and appear to have identified Amorim as the leading candidate to drive the club’s rebuild.
According to reports from Italy, Milan’s hierarchy held extensive talks with Amorim and came away increasingly convinced that the former Sporting CP manager fits the club’s long-term vision.
A proposed deal is said to include a two-year contract with an option to extend for an additional season, reflecting Milan’s desire to establish stability and create a clear football identity.
Club owner Gerry Cardinale is believed to favour an attacking style built around high pressing, quick transitions and aggressive ball recovery — qualities associated with Amorim’s tactical approach.
The latest developments represent a major shift in Milan’s managerial search, with Oliver Glasner, who had previously been considered a strong contender, now appearing to have fallen behind in the race.
Glasner’s chances reportedly weakened following changes behind the scenes, allowing Milan to explore alternative options more freely.
Amorim is also understood to have been considered by Milan in the past before the club eventually appointed Paulo Fonseca.
Meanwhile, Al-Ahli manager Matthias Jaissle remains under consideration, although his reported €6 million release clause is viewed as a potential obstacle as Milan would rather prioritise strengthening the squad.
Former Real Madrid defender and coach Alvaro Arbeloa has also emerged as another name being monitored.
With preparations for the 2026–27 Serie A season gathering pace and after missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification last season, Milan are expected to make a final decision soon as they seek to begin pre-season with a new direction and renewed ambition.
