Canada delivered one of the standout performances of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a ruthless 6–0 demolition of Qatar in their Group B encounter at BC Place in Vancouver. The dominant victory marked Canada’s first-ever win at a men’s FIFA World Cup and sent a strong message to the rest of the tournament.
The hosts wasted no time asserting control as Cyle Larin opened the scoring in the 16th minute to ignite celebrations among the home supporters. Jonathan David then took centre stage, producing a sensational hat-trick with goals in the 29th minute, deep into first-half stoppage time, and another late strike in added time to complete his brilliant display.
Canada continued to pile pressure after the break and were rewarded again when Nathan Saliba added a fourth goal in the 64th minute. Qatar’s difficult evening worsened further when Mohamed Al Mannai turned the ball into his own net in the 75th minute, sealing a humiliating scoreline for the Asian side.
The match became even more challenging for Qatar after disciplinary issues left them reduced to nine men, allowing Canada to dominate possession and create wave after wave of attacks.
Despite the huge win, there was concern for Canada after midfielder Ismaël Koné suffered a serious injury during the contest, slightly dampening what was otherwise a historic night for the co-host nation.
With four points from two matches, Canada strengthened their chances of progressing to the knockout stage and moved closer to securing top spot in Group B.
