The Hausa community in Osun State has declared support for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The endorsement was announced during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Thursday in Sabo, Osogbo, where leaders of the Hausa community pledged to mobilise support across the state in favour of the APC candidate.
The meeting was facilitated by former First Lady of Osun State, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola, and attended by 35 Sarkin Hausas drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the Sarkin Hausa of Osun State, Alhaji Muhammad Lawal Gomina, said the endorsement followed confidence in Oyebamiji’s leadership qualities, experience, and campaign promises.
He described the APC governorship candidate as a capable leader with the capacity to move the state forward.
Also speaking, the Sarkin Hausa of Ifon-Orolu, representing other Hausa traditional leaders, appealed for greater inclusion of the community in governance, citing concerns over political appointments, employment opportunities, and access to social amenities.
According to him, the Hausa community in the state is home to many qualified and educated individuals who can contribute meaningfully to government and public service. He urged the APC candidate to create more opportunities for community members if elected.
Responding, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola assured the gathering that an Oyebamiji administration would promote inclusive governance and equal opportunities.
She thanked the Hausa community for its support during the administration of her husband and appealed for continued backing for the APC in the forthcoming election.
Oyetola described Oyebamiji as a dependable leader with a track record of performance in public service.
She highlighted his previous roles, including his time at the Osun State Investment Company Limited (OSICOL), Commissioner for Finance, and Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), saying his leadership contributed to institutional growth and reforms.
Also addressing the gathering, the wife of the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Sekinat Oyebamiji, described her husband as an experienced administrator with the competence to tackle developmental challenges in the state.
She promised that the administration would prioritise inclusion, empowerment initiatives, and improved welfare for residents across all communities.
As part of the engagement, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola and Dr. Sekinat Oyebamiji visited Sabo Market to interact with traders and later paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Grand Imam of Sumuratul Mumineen of Osun State, Alhaji Lateef Owolabi.
Several party leaders, government officials, and local government representatives attended the event.
