The Osun State University Alumni Association has called for a thorough, transparent and unbiased investigation into the death of a final-year student of the institution, Miss Osunlakin Grace, while expressing condolences to her family and the university community.
In a statement issued on Friday by the association’s Public Relations Officer, Segun Faleyimu, the alumni body expressed condolences to the Vice-Chancellor, the deceased’s family and the entire university community, describing Grace’s death as “painful and unfortunate.”
“The Osun State University Alumni Association commiserates with you and the entire University Management on the unfortunate death of one of our students, Miss Osunlakin Grace, a final-year student of the Department of Criminology and Security Studies,” the statement read.
The alumni association said it was deeply saddened by the incident, noting that the loss had affected not only former students but also the deceased’s family, classmates, lecturers and the wider university community.
“We urge the University Management to institute a thorough, transparent and unbiased investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death,” the letter read.
The association also raised concerns over alleged shortcomings in the operations of the university’s Health Centre on the Ifetedo Campus.
According to the letter, it had received reports from students alleging that they were often required to purchase basic medical consumables and drugs before receiving treatment at the health facility.

It stated that if the allegations were confirmed, such a practice would fall short of the university’s responsibility to provide adequate care for students under its charge.
The alumni body demanded justice for the late student and other students of the Ifetedo Campus, urging the university to hold any staff found culpable accountable.
“We therefore demand justice for Miss Osunlakin Grace and every student of the Ifetedo Campus. If the investigation establishes negligence or misconduct on the part of any member of staff, appropriate sanctions should be applied. This will not only ensure accountability but also serve as a deterrent against future occurrences,” it stated.
It added that appropriate sanctions should be imposed if investigations establish negligence or misconduct, saying such measures would promote accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.
While mourning Grace’s death, the association prayed for the repose of her soul and for strength and comfort for her family, friends and the entire university community.
